Where there’s a will // our community in profile
Hi guys, my name is Mel. I have been a resident of Anstead in WA for 15 months and I have been given the privilege to write about our community and how the pandemic has affected our weekly events and people.
The big thing about Cana is ‘where there’s a will there’s a way’ so we have continued to reach out to our community, family and friends whilst always being as safe as possible. We have been able to arrange a few outings thanks to the wonderful volunteers down to the river for a BBQ which is a nice isolated spot where we could self-distance and have a swim.
Keeping connected, community lunches.
Our Thursday community lunches put on by the lovely Cana volunteers, a get-together and chance for all to catch up and chinwag, a chance for the homeless and those in need to feel comfortable, chat and have a coffee and a wonderful meal had to be cancelled. Instead, we are rallying up a plan to make up a parcel which the volunteers will drop to the community, a little something to let them know we are still here for them, we care and we will do what we can for them during the pandemic.
Sharing and contributing, makes a community.
My contribution are home-made biscuits (I have never baked in my life), but I’ve got the best biscuit maker and teacher Maureen. So, we (or she) made me do my first batch of Anzac cookies watching every move, making sure I had the right measurements down to the size of the cookie. They turned out beautifully. I then made another batch the next day on my own. Maureen will make a baker out of me yet.
So by baking cookies to put in our parcel, I feel a sense of relief that it will make a difference and show our community that we are here for them. I hope you enjoyed hearing a little about Cana and I end this with a quote for everyone.
We've lost hope
And need someone to put
Their arms around us
And say
I've got you right now
I won't let you face
This alone.
