Cabrini House: A new haven for a family in need

Our community is thrilled to share news of the opening of Cabrini House, a new three-bedroom transitional home in Darlinghurst. This space has been set up to support an asylum-seeking family living in our community on a bridging visa while their claim for protection is assessed, providing a much-needed sanctuary during this critical time.

Our newly-formed partnership with House of Welcome has been instrumental in bringing Cabrini House to life, enabling us to offer stability and compassionate support to a vulnerable family.

This initiative would not have been possible without the ongoing support of Marc Polese and his family, whom many will recognise as the new owner of our North Richmond farm. The Polese's are providing us access to this new house on subsidised rental terms. Their commitment to our community and its work is truly inspiring.

We also extend heartfelt thanks to Nick Scali and Forty Winks Crows Nest for their generous donations of furniture, as well as to the McKinsey team for their time and care in preparing the house. Special recognition goes to some of our de Porres House residents who played an invaluable role in making Cabrini House feel like home.

We look forward to welcoming Cabrini House’s first residents to our community and creating a nurturing environment where they can feel safe and supported.

As we approach the end of the year, we invite you to consider a financial gift to Cana to help sustain programs like Cabrini House. Your support makes an enormous difference, allowing us to offer safety, dignity, and hope to those in need.
