Community annual appeal 2022
Continuing to support Cana gives hope for those in crisis
Community video recorded, produced and edited by The QUO.
Over the last 2 years our newsletters have been filled with so many positive stories about our community and the support our volunteers have given during the pandemic. I remain so grateful for their commitment.
However, throughout this time I have witnessed an increase in depression and anxiety as so many people, both our residents and our volunteers grapple with our uncertain world. Whether it be due to Covid, catastrophic natural disasters of floods and fire, or the war in Ukraine, I see a growing sense of helplessness.
In our small way Cana tries to create light in people’s lives, and it is important we try to bring a feeling of optimism and hope to our community. We cannot change world affairs, nor all the impacts of the pandemic but we can focus on giving within our community and remembering the ripple effect of kindness.
All our residential homes are operating at capacity and the farm, though impacted by the rain is recovering. At the same time, we have been able to maintain employment opportunities for our men and women.
During the last year the donations we have received have enabled us to:
Provide holistic care and transitional accommodation in Darlinghurst, Redfern, Orchard Hills, Perth, and Fremantle
Furnish units for those who were able to access housing.
Have an inhouse psychologist and community nurse.
Pay bills for those who have really struggled.
Distribute computers to those who didn’t have access to anyone or anything during Covid.
Refurbish Nagle House.
Record podcasts for volunteers and record videos for presentations.
We have packed and delivered food packages and fresh produce across the broader community.
We have paid for airfares for families to be reunited or to attend family funerals.
In partnership with the University of Sydney we have developed the CanaCare Wellness program.
Established a Mobile Kitchen at the Farm.
Offer Art Therapy classes to the women who live at Nagle House.
Remain fully operational at the Farm and supply gifts for Father’s Day, Australia Day, Valentine’s Day, and Mother’s Day.
Offer regular community meals to thirty rough sleepers in our Perth community.
Like all charities Cana needs financial support. We are a charity that chooses to maintain our financial independence, therefore we neither seek nor receive government aid. We are presently supporting a greater number of homeless people than ever before and at the same time we have had an overall reduction in the financial support that we receive. If you can do so, could I ask that you consider donating to Cana before the end of this financial year?
We are deeply grateful for your loyal and generous support.
